&lt;br/&gt;That's what it meant in my 1955 Oxford Universal Dictionary(with my name in gilt on the spine!)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;When,oh when, did this word become a verb meaning "to move from one place to another"?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;i mean, you can transfer, transport, transmit,transmigrate, i don't feel like typing the rest of the page. Why must we "transition"??&lt;/div&gt;

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;I've been having an argument with my girlfriend for a while now. Is it OK to say that something is 'very unique.' She thinks that something is either unique or not unique. There is no 'very unique.' There are no degrees of uniqueness.

&lt;br/&gt;the rule seems to be that you just add an 'n'.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;so why don't we have canadans living up north?!

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;As I was meandering along the sidewalk a few days ago, I noticed a woman with a shirt on.  In and of itself, that might not seem an event worth recounting, but bear in mind that this shirt had words printed on it.  What, you may ask, were those words?

&lt;br/&gt;IT ALL"
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I felt temptation overtake me, but restraint won the day.  As much as I wanted to, I did not ask her, "Shouldn't that be hyphenated?  Do you really mean that statement as an imperative?"

&lt;br/&gt;Now, of course, I only regret my tactful silence.&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;The only other one with which I was even remotely connected was the International League of Intellectual Fascists (an Ayn Rand groupie group), and, pedant though I am, I did not care to be associated with that league...I am not fond of any sort of fascism. But that was another time, another place.
